Hard Back Book Printing

Our hardback books are printed using the latest printing technology and finished in-house by our highly skilled print finishing department. All of our hardback books are hand-made to ensure only the finest quality.

Using our Digital print technology, More Than Just Print offers low quantity print runs as low as one copy upwards. We can print your books in either full colour or black and white.

We offer A5 books and A4 books. We can also provide  210mm x 210mm books and royale size books on request. The hardback covers are all laminated as standard to give a professional finish. Lamination is available in either gloss, matt or soft touch.

How To Order A4 Hardcover Books with Manual Printers

Ordering your A4 hardcover is a quick and easy process. Once you fill in the options you will get instant Hardback book prices.

  1. Firstly fill in the number of pages
  2. For the inner printing pick either black and white or colour printing.
  3. Then pick the material for the front cover. We offer matt, Gloss or Soft Touch. Every cover is printed in full colour as standard.
  4. The back covers have the same finish like the front cover
  5. A Ribbon bookmark can be added. We offer either Red or Black ribbons.
  6. Add the number of A4 hardback books that you would like printed.

All of our paper is FSC accredited. This means that it has been sourced by paper mills that plant more trees than are used to make the paper. To produce the perfect A4 hardback Books, we love a PDF file. However, if you don’t have a PDF file, send us a Word, Excel file, and we will send you back a PDF proof. If you want to convert your file to PDF yourself, click on our help page. We can print from either High-Resolution PDF files or JPeg files. You can supply your own artwork and we can print directly from your file, however, we have an in-house Graphic Design Studio so we can design your roller banner for you. Hardback Book Printing Overview

Hardback books are printed on the latest Canon Digital Printing Presses. This means that we can produce one-off books as well as larger runs into the 100’s. The books are printed in either black and white or colour. We add a cover and this is bound to the book with a special glue to keep the pages in place. The covers are mounted onto a hard card cover and laminated to give it extra protection. We offer either Gloss, Matt or Soft Touch finish to our hardback books.

Printing

You will have vibrant colours throughout if opting for colour books and crisp text. Colour covers come as standard. If you can supply a high-resolution cover then your books will be photo quality. We also produce black and white printing options. If you choose the black and white option, your cover will still be printed in full colour.

Our Hardcover Book Binding Method

To create your Hardback Books (hardback binding) all of the printed pages are secured to the spine using a high tack binding glue. This is a strong and flexible binding method that is industry-standard in hardback bookbinding. This type of binding is called Perfect Binding.

What is Hardback Binding?

Hardback Book Binding is when the inside pages of the books are glued into the spine with thermal glue. Thermal glue is strong, but it’s also flexible. The pages are not sewn into the book. The inside pages are cut down to size and glued together. The hardcover is then placed onto the edge of the books securing the books in place.

All covers are printed in full colour and the inside covers are white as standard, however, we can use printed sheets if you would rather have this option. Standard practice is a double-sided printed sheet, however, if you do require a single-sided sheet this can be produced. Just get in contact with us to find out more about our Hardback Books. Sending artwork

If you are sending artwork, you can do this in two ways: 1) upload during Order (for small files up to 10mb only) 2) Upload at Check out 3) uploading to our WeTransfer site Please use your name and order reference when sending files, so we can quickly reconcile against your order

PDF Files

High resolution (300dpi) files are the best for us to work with. Please see the settings below to get the best quality printing.
  • Resolution: Choose High Resolution
  • Compression Settings – For colour and greyscale this should be downsampled to 300dpi with “auto compression” set on high
  • Font Embedding – Should be set to “embed all fonts”
  • The Colour needs to be set as CMYK

Convert all text to outlines and embed all fonts. Save as a PDF file with 3mm bleed and crop marks.

The resolution should be set to 300dpi. Save the file as either JPEG or TIFF. Other files not listed above must be saved either as an EPS or JPEG.

Adobe InDesign Software LogoAdobe InDesign

All fonts and pictures used in your artwork need to be supplied to us in a separate folder using the “package” function under the “file” menu. Zip your files and folders before uploading or sending them to us via e-mail. Please also include a PDF. We can then use the PDF to make sure that nothing is missing or moved.

Artwork Bleed

  • Please supply a 3mm bleed around your artwork.
  • Please ensure that the colour is set to CMYK, not RGB.
  • Please provide crop marks around all your supplied artwork.

Microsoft Office Files

We cannot print straight from the following programmes. However, we can save a PDF file and re-send back to you for proofing.
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Publisher
  • PowerPoint
You can save your Microsoft Office files as a PDF yourself if you would prefer. That way you can see exactly what the printed file will look like. Please note: It is important when supplying a PDF from a Microsoft Office application, that extra care is taken to ensure any spot colours are created correctly in your original document/file. Please supply a screenshot of your Microsoft Office file before conversion. You can do this by following the instruction below for both Mac and PC. Mac: Press ‘Command’ + ‘Shift’ + 3 for a full screenshot, or ‘Command’ + ‘Shift’ + 4 to select an area to screenshot. This will save a PNG file to your desktop. PC: There is a key on your keyboard that says ‘Print Screen’. You can then paste this into a document or email to send over.

Is  Your Printing Environmentally Friendly?

Yes, our paper is all FSC approved. Meaning that all of the paper stock that we use has been harvested in a responsible manner.  FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council. This an independent non-governmental organisation that promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests. You can learn more about FSC here. How Do You Print Your products?

We use the latest digital print equipment for certain jobs, like smaller run manuals, brochures, printed invitations and cards. For the larger run work like the 5000, 10,000 leaflets or longer print runs we will use Litho Print Machines. When we are printing our Large Format printing like exhibition banners, pull-up banners, and fabric banners we have a fully kitted out Large Format Department.
